About Me

My photo
The Lord never ceases to amaze and bless me (and my family). Though there have been many unexpected, seemingly overwhelming events in my life, God always provides a way, meeting and exceeding any need I may have. I long to know God more each day, to become the Godly woman, wife, and mother he so passionately desires me to be. This requires extensive training from God. For this reason, I am a perpetual student of the Lord. He is constantly molding and training me as His child; a wife, friend, coworker, daughter, sister, and mother; to be more like Him. In a similar way, along with my amazing husband, I hope to be a Godly example for our children and raise them in such a way that sparks an urgent desire for them to know and long for a personal relationship with the Lord our God.

Peanut is the size of a Lime!

Week 11: Lime (Food Comparison)

Your baby is now the size of a lime!
Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessel shows right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future.

Doctor's Report: My hormones are doing great. I will finish the progesterone suppliments this week and then I am DONE! Unless you have experienced these little treats yourself, you have NO IDEA how exciting it is to see an end in sight! Not to mention the fact that this means baby is safer, I'm approaching the end of my 1st trimester, and my chances of miscarriage are about to drop significantly!!

General Baby Posts:

How Far Along? 11 weeks 0 days

Total weight gain: I have no idea... I'll answer this after my next doctor's appt
Baby Bump? yeah... it's already fairly obvious I'm pregnant.
Maternity I am wearing maternity pants now because my belly isn't pleased when things (clothes, belts, LANDEN, etc) push on it; about the middle of last week, my belly had a growth spurt and really anything none stretchy (pants-wise) just doesn't fit well.
Cravings: milk, juice, baked potato, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (weird I KNOW! I haven't even eaten these in YEARS!), steak
Aversions: onions, smelly things, meats (for the most part)

Symptoms: tired, headaches, nausea (getting better), extra potty trips during the night, not sleeping well, tummy cramps,  thirsty, and my skin is broken out, Nesting?!?! (frantically looking for baby bottle parts so Peanut can use Landen's old bottles.... in MARCH! Ha!)
Sleep: dreams are weird... really weird, waking up multiple times for no reason, 1-2 potty trips during the night

Gender: don't know
Belly Button in or out? definitely in

What I miss: food tasting normal
Best moment(s) this week: just hanging out with Keith and Landen and learning that my journey with hormone suppliments is almost over!!! WOOHOO!
What I'm looking forward to: hearing Peanut's heart beat

Concerns: I am really concerned about the birth of this baby. I know I have a ways to go, but after having an emergency C-section with Landen this is really weighing on me. God willing, Keith and I would like to have more children in the future; that said, if you have a 2nd C-section the doctor's won't even let you attempt a VBAC. The more C-section scars a woman has, the higher the chances of complications with the placenta and uterine rupture. Also, C-sections are NOT a fun recovery and with me being the sole income provider, I'll need to return to work asap.  Keith and I are praying that this baby can be born free of complications and by the method nature prefers. Your prayers in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!

Peanut is the size of an Prune

Your Baby: Week 10 (Baby Fruit)

Baby's now the size of a prune!
With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)

Doctor's Report: My due date is 3/20/11. There is a good chance I'll have pre-eclampsia again (sad and scary). The doppler can only pick up heartbeats at 11+ weeks, so we didn't get to hear Peanut's heart this time. Doctor is willing to do a VBAC if that is an option when the time comes.

OK, now for the General Baby Posts:

How Far Along? 10 weeks 0 days

Total weight gain: Well, since the last time I weighed myself BEFORE getting pregnant... about 8 pounds, but I have no idea if that's baby weight or variations in scales, or both... I think I am going to start with what I weighed on Tuesday at my appointment.

Baby Bump? some of my pants are getting snug and my belly isn't pleased when things (clothes, belts, LANDEN, etc) push on it

Maternity Clothes? I still wear some from when I had Landen, but I can still fit into most of my NON-maternity clothes  :)

Cravings: Zaxby's Zalad (buffalo dipped chicken with ranch dressing), milk, juice, milk shakes, queso dip, baked potato
Aversions: onions, smelly things, meats (for the most part)

Symptoms: tired, headaches, nausea, extra potty trips during the night, not sleeping well, tummy cramps,  thirsty, and I am having youthful looking skin! (aka skin breaking out like crazy!)
Sleep: dreams are starting to get weird... really weird, waking up multiple times for no reason, 1-2 potty trips during the night

Gender: probably gonna be a boy
Belly Button in or out? definitely in

What I miss: food tasting normal, not feeling nauseous all the time!

Best moment(s) this week: Doctor's appointment on Tuesday when we found out that the hormone suppliments are working really well... I still have to continue the suppliments, but I don't have to continue getting blood drawn weekly! WOOHOO! and Keith getting me a Zalad from Zaxby's! I ate the whole thing in one setting! ... AND My sister found out yesterday that she is having a little girl!!! :)

What I'm looking forward to: hearing Peanut's heart beat

Pictures: (I don't have any new pictures of Peanut)

Peanut is the size of an Olive

Your Baby: Week 9 (Baby Fruit)

Baby's now the size of a green olive!
Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby!

Something I found that I think is worth sharing:
As we are entering the realm of raising a child, who is no longer an innocent baby that doesn't know better, but rather an inquisitive toddler who (though may not understand why) DOES know when he is doing something of which mommy and daddy don't approve. A child who will look to see if someone else is paying attention to what he is up to and may even continue with the mischief knowing there will be consequences. This blog is pretty awesome in showing the fine line of Grace and Discipline.

OK, now for the General Baby Posts:

How Far Along? 9 weeks 0 days

Total weight gain: Who Knows... going to the Dr this afternoon

Baby Bump? some of my pants are getting a little bit snug and uncomfortable...

Maternity Clothes? I still wear some from when I had Landen, but I can still fit into most of my NON-maternity clothes just fine :)

Cravings: Cottage cheese, oranges, bananas, milk shakes, queso dip

Aversions: onions, smelly things, meats particularly chicken, beef, and pork... I ate a turkey sandwich on Saturday that was AMAZING...

Symptoms: tired, headaches, nausea, extra potty trips during the night, not sleeping well, tummy cramps/pinches/pulls, skin breaking out, laid down on my belly last night and quickly decided otherwise (felt like I was laying on a baseball).

Sleep: It's not great. I keep waking up for no apparent reason in addition to making an extra 1-2 trips to the bathroom during the night.

Gender: I'm still gonna have to say a boy... in reality, we have a while before we know!

Belly Button in or out? Silly question.... definitely in

What I miss: not a whole lot, other than NOT being nauseous all the time and having bruise free arms (getting lab work each week is doing a number on my arms)

Best moment(s) this week: Keith getting me a chocolate milk shake and getting a call from the nurse to let me know the hormone suppliments seem to be working.

What I'm looking forward to: Hearing Peanut's heart beat this afternoon at the doctor's office.

Pictures: (I don't have any pictures of Peanut, but I think Landen deserves some love, too.)

Peanut is the size of a Raspberry

Your Baby: Week 8 (Baby Fruit)

Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

OK, now for the General Baby Posts to begin:

How Far Along? 8 weeks 0 days

Total weight gain: Did I ever really lose that much from the FIRST pregnancy? I don't know that I have actually GAINED any weight, I think it's more of my menial losing trend has altogether stopped.... Who Knows...

Baby Bump? no, BUT I have noticed that snug fitting pants are uncomfortable on my belly... I think I was around 12 weeks last time when I was reaching this point...

Maternity Clothes? I still wear some from when I had Landen, but I can still fit into my NON-maternity clothes just fine :)

Cravings: Cottage cheese, ALMONDS (so SO strange since I despised almonds prior to this pregnancy), chocolate milk shakes

Aversions: meats particularly chicken, turkey, and pork... there are times when I think I could go for a steak... mmm steak!

Symptoms: Tired, weird dreams (primarily about the birth), those uncomfortable little pinches and such that you get in the beginning (well, to some degree, throughout), nausea (not as bad as last time though ::crossing fingers::)

Sleep: It's ok; I think the majority of my sleep issues, other than an extra trip to the bathroom around 2am, are life related :)

Gender: based on the odds for the Thomas family, I'm gonna say a boy... in reality, we have a while before we know!

Belly Button in or out? Silly question.... definitely in

What I miss: seeing how I have only KNOWN for 1 week, not a whole lot.

Best moment this week: Seeing Peanut for the first time via ultrasound. It literally looked like a peanut with a heart beat (139 bpm to be exact)

This was last week

Here is why we are calling this baby Peanut....

recalling our blessings

After Keith and I got married in July of 2009, we were preparing for my fall internship and graduation, as well as Keith's first semester of Physical Therapy School in the spring. Other than the freak ovarian cyst rupturing the day after we got home from our honeymoon, life seemed to be going pretty smoothly as we adjusted to married life. I began my student teaching and Keith was working/taking a physics class at UAB. Then things began to happen (let's make a list).

Happenings:
Blessings:
1. The Swine flu hit the state of Alabama with a vengence - we both got sick.
First time sick together taught us how to sacrifice when we didn't feel like it.
2. I began getting EXTREMELY tired - to the point of going to the doctor to get checked for Mono
Unrecognized Preggo symptom #1
3. Whatever it was we started putting in our trashcans was unbelievably foul and strong smelling
 Unrecognized Preggo symptom #2
4. Suddenly, I began having SEVERE pain in my lower back - I had a UTI and Kidney Stones
  1. Keith had a final that morning, so dad had to take me to the doctor
  2. I went to the doctor for some medicine and found out I was pregnant
  3. Doc sent me to the emergency room, who determined I was 8 weeks pregnant and sent me home, only to be hospitalized the next day
We found out BEFORE taking any medicine that would have adversely affected the pregnancy.

I had be told that I may never be able to have children because of endometriosis.

The UAB Physical Therapy School allowed Keith to postpone his start date for 1 year and helped find him a PT job to work while he took care of me!

Keith now has a job waiting for him once he graduates from PT school.

By having this job, I was able to stay home with Landen until he was 6 months old.
5. We found out our insurance required a 1 year waiting period to become a "Family Plan" that covered maternity costs
Ran into a nurse who had an unexpected pregnancy herself, and was able to get us information about how to get Medicaid and WIC to support the pregnancy

Medicaid would cover ALL maternity expenses, ALL of Landen's NICU expenses, and ALL of Landen's medical expenses for the 1st year of him life!
6. I began getting REALLY bad morning (and afternoon and evening) sickness - I still refuse to go near Krystals or V8 Juice!
Keith was extremely helpful, patient, and supporting.
7. After applying and/or interviewing at what seemed like 80% of the schools in the state of Alabama, I learned that no one really wanted to hire a pregnant woman.
I was able to get a temporary position at Alabama Power, where I got to know all the people I now work with.

I did not have to worry about lesson plans, time off, etc. when I was put on bedrest

8. I was diagnosed with Pre-eclampsia and put on bedrest, which further led to financial strain
Keith took on extra jobs, working 7 days/week, and did all the work around the apartment.

We realized just what an ABSOLUTELY amazing, Godly, supportive Sunday School Class we are blessed with!!
9. Landen was born premature and quit breathing after being born
There were only 2 other babies in the NICU the weekend Landen was born, so he had all the attention he needed to support him during his early days.
10. I was hired as a loan processor, but after 4 months, Wells Fargo needed to downsize and I lost my job.
The day after finding out I was losing my job at WF, I spoke with the temp agency (Spherion) that got me the position at APCo while I was pregnant. It turned out that the day before, APCo contacted Spherion looking for someone to fill the same position, and they specifically asked for me!

I was eventually hired as a permanent Alabama Power Employee.
11. With me getting a job at WF and then with APCo, and Keith not having a job as a PT student, we needed child care for Landen, but didn't have the funds to pay for it
Mom retired from teaching and offered to keep Landen while I was at work!

12. Keith's jeep, something that was TOTALLY unsafe for Landen (or anyone for that matter) to ride in was getting worse and the carseat would barely fit in the 2 door accord I drove
Keith's dad found us an 1995 accord wagon IN GREAT CONDITION, that we were able to TRADE for the jeep (I honestly thought we would have to pay someone to take the jeep off our hands) and we paid the difference with cash!
13. Keith wrecked the wagon
We were able to sell the wagon remains, borrow a 2001 Kia from Keith's dad, and use the wagon money to repair the Kia's breaks

We now have a safe 4 door vehicle for our family again!
12. My very first week as an Alabama Power Employee, I find out I'm 7 weeks pregnant! AGAIN! And my hormone levels are too low to support the pregnancy.

By finding out about the pregnancy (and hormone levels) as soon as we did, I was able to immediately begin hormone suppliments
13. With my progesterone levels being too low, I have to get lab work done weekly (not good news during 1st week of work)
I spoke with my nurse and I am able to get my lab work done AFTER I get off work!!

Now, don't get me wrong, this is NOT a complete list of EITHER. We have been blessed in so many ways that I cannot even begin to make a complete list! Looking back, it is very apparent how God has had the provisions, LONG before there was even a need! I find that when a circumstance starts to seem overwhelming, if I look back and consider how God has pulled us through in the past, it is nothing more than FOOLISH for me to question any part of God's plan. God is Good, All the time!

We announced to our Sunday School class yesterday about this surprise baby. It was nice to have their excitement and their prayers as we go through this unknown time.
